Today Fridolijn presents: Above the Fray. A song recorded and produced by world renowned producer Troy Miller.

Amsterdam based singer and songwriter Fridolijn has developed a distinguished, evocative style, uniquely her own, which she likes to describe as dreamy folktronica. Her world feels like a lucid daydream where her songs slowly unfold themselves. Presented in a classic songstructure, her crystalclear voice is being wrapped in soft layers of swirling synthesizers, acoustic folk-guitars and distant drums.

‘Chapter One: Above The Fray’ contains 3 songs, in Fridolijn’s signature dreamy folktronica style. The first two tracks have already been released as separate singles, with the release of Above the Fray, Fridolijn completes Chapter One. By releasing her new album in chapters Fridolijn takes her audience by the hand along the journey she undertook in creating her album.

Above the Fray was recorded in London, and produced by the world renowned  Troy Miller. Troy Miller, who was a drummer for Amy Winehouse has produced albums by Gregory Porter, Laura Mvula and Jamie Cullum. He worked with artists like JP Cooper and Rag 'n Bone man.

Above the Fray starts out crispy and thin, with Fridolijn's clear voice almost whispering into your ear. Along the way the song takes you into the dark depths of the uncertainty of sudden love. Fridolijn sings about how her world is turned upside down as if struck by lightning. Accompanied by monksinging Fridolijn tells us: Win or Lose I sing your name. I will remember us this way.

The track reveals influences by Feist, Florence and The Machine and Joni Mitchell. Miller's drums almost sound tribal towards the end. The Fender Rhodes is played by renowned UK pianist Oli Rockberger.

The release of Merry Go Round, on April 10th 2020 marked a new beginning for the artist, being first of a string of new releases, to be expected later in in the year. With this second single Truth or Dare Fridolijn shows another glimpse into her world.

The acoustic guitar, played by David Austin, leads the way, taking you by the hand.

Fridolijn first appeared on the scene in 2011 with the release of 'Crossing the Rubicon', by her band Finn Silver. A self-released jazz, pop and hiphop-influenced debut, which reached top chart positions in Holland and Japan. It brought Fridolijn & her band to international Festivals like North Sea Jazz Festival, Injazz and Über Jazz, and to the stages of Billboard Live Tokyo, het Concertgebouw Amsterdam and The Tabernacle in Londen Itunes hauled her 'New Jazz Artist of the Year'.

Fridolijn was a member of Singer/Songwriter supergroup 'Ladies of the Lowlands', and recorded and performed internationally with British jazzband/MOBO winners Kairos 4tet, pianist Gideon van Gelder (Jose James), Cinematic Orchestra guitaritst Stuart McCallum (UK) and became host of the monthly vocal session at Amsterdam’s North Sea Jazzclub.

With a combined 2 million streams on Spotify, international shows on stages like Billboard Live Tokyo, The Tabernacle London, and Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and press coverage on blogs like Written in Music and NoDepression Fridolijn has steadily been making a name for herself. Merry Go Round shows us the artist took the time needed for refining her sound, making curious for what is yet to come.
